About Etheria Counseling

Etheria Counseling was founded in Myrtle Beach in 2021 by Dr. Angel Corbin. The practice began in a single counseling room and has grown into a multi-clinician group practice with a multi-room office and dedicated administrative support.

The name Etheria is derived from the idea of something ethereal: light, airy, calm, and removed from unnecessary stress. The practice was created in response to long waits for mental health care and the increasingly impersonal experience patients can encounter with large national or highly transactional therapy organizations.

Etheria's philosophy emphasizes the therapeutic relationship and individualized care. Technology, online scheduling, secure telehealth, insurance processing, and other modern conveniences are used to improve access without replacing the personal relationship between a client and therapist.

Etheria is primarily an outpatient psychotherapy practice. Care is provided by independently licensed mental health clinicians.

Who Etheria Counseling Serves

Etheria provides outpatient psychotherapy for clients age 6 and older. Individual clinician age ranges and areas of experience vary.

The practice works with children, adolescents, teenagers, young adults, adults, couples, spouses, partners, parents, families, older adults, and other clients whose needs are appropriate for outpatient psychotherapy.

Etheria welcomes clients from a wide range of backgrounds, family structures, identities, occupations, communities, and life circumstances.

Etheria Counseling is an LGBTQIA+ affirming practice. LGBTQIA+ clients are welcome to seek counseling for identity-related concerns, relationships, stress, anxiety, depression, life transitions, or any other outpatient mental health concern within the practice's scope of care.

No physician referral is required to request counseling. Clients may contact the practice directly.

Referral Sources

Etheria receives referrals from many sources, including:

  • Self-referrals
  • Physicians and other healthcare professionals
  • Hospitals and healthcare organizations
  • Schools
  • Courts
  • Attorneys
  • Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs)
  • Other therapists and mental health professionals
  • Community organizations
  • Family members and personal referrals

Court-referred counseling should not be confused with forensic psychological evaluation, competency evaluation, custody evaluation, or other specialized forensic testing services.

Conditions and Concerns Treated

Etheria treats a broad range of mental health, behavioral, emotional, developmental, relationship, adjustment, and life concerns when outpatient psychotherapy is clinically appropriate.

The following list is illustrative rather than exhaustive:

Clients do not need to know their diagnosis before contacting Etheria. Clinicians can assess concerns during the counseling process and determine whether outpatient treatment is appropriate.

Therapeutic Approaches and Modalities

Etheria clinicians use a range of evidence-based and established therapeutic approaches. The specific modalities used vary by clinician and by client need. Not every therapist uses every modality.

Approaches represented within the practice include:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Solution-Focused Therapy
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
  • Brief Solution-Focused Therapy (BSFT)
  • Family Systems approaches
  • Family Therapy
  • Gottman Method-informed couples therapy
  • Client-Centered Therapy

  • Strength-Based Therapy
  • Art Therapy techniques where appropriate
  • Grief Therapy
  • Integrative Problem-Focused Therapy (IPFT)
  • Applied Behavior Analysis-informed techniques and extensive ABA experience among certain clinicians
  • Faith-based or Christian counseling when specifically desired by the client

Important clarification about ABA: Etheria has clinicians with significant experience and training related to Applied Behavior Analysis and autism, but Etheria is not represented as a comprehensive standalone ABA center or intensive ABA program.

Assessment, Screening and Diagnosis

Etheria is a psychotherapy and counseling practice rather than a formal psychological testing center.

Licensed clinicians may use validated clinical screening tools when appropriate as part of routine outpatient mental health care. These tools may assist with assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, monitoring, and clinical decision-making.

Screening may be used for concerns such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, autism-related concerns, sleep problems, and other mental health or behavioral issues when clinically appropriate.

Screening performed as part of psychotherapy should not be confused with comprehensive psychological, neuropsychological, forensic, or educational testing.

Services Etheria Does Not Provide

Etheria is an outpatient counseling practice and does not provide every level or category of mental health service.

  • No psychiatric medication prescribing or medication management
  • No psychiatry services
  • No comprehensive psychological testing
  • No formal neuropsychological testing
  • No inpatient psychiatric care
  • No detoxification monitoring
  • No intensive outpatient program (IOP/IOT)
  • No group therapy program
  • No comprehensive standalone ABA program

Clients needing a higher level of care, emergency treatment, specialized testing, medication management, or another service outside Etheria's scope may be referred to an appropriate provider or facility.

Crisis and Emergency Information

Etheria Counseling is an outpatient psychotherapy practice and is not a crisis center, emergency psychiatric service, or emergency medical facility.

If you or someone else is experiencing an immediate mental health or safety emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is also available by calling or texting 988.

Clients who require inpatient psychiatric care, emergency stabilization, detoxification, or another level of care beyond routine outpatient psychotherapy should seek an appropriate emergency or higher-level treatment service.

Telehealth Counseling

All Etheria clinicians are able to provide telehealth counseling to appropriate clients located in South Carolina.

For South Carolina telehealth, the client must be physically located in South Carolina at the time of the appointment.

Etheria uses the secure SimplePractice telehealth platform.

Most counseling services available in person can also be provided through telehealth when clinically appropriate. Clients may also alternate between in-person and telehealth appointments when appropriate.

Etheria does not impose a separate practice-wide age cutoff for telehealth beyond its general age range of 6 and older, although the therapist determines whether telehealth is clinically appropriate for a particular child or client.

South Carolina Telehealth

Etheria provides telehealth throughout South Carolina. Clients may receive counseling from home or another private location anywhere in the state as long as they are physically present in South Carolina at the time of treatment.

This includes clients in Myrtle Beach, Conway, Charleston, Columbia, Greenville, Spartanburg, Rock Hill, Florence, Hilton Head, Summerville, Goose Creek, and other South Carolina communities.

North Carolina Telehealth

North Carolina telehealth is also available through Etheria clinicians who are appropriately licensed in North Carolina.

Dr. Angel Corbin and MaryAnne Y. Zabrycki are able to provide telehealth to appropriate clients who are physically located in North Carolina at the time of the appointment.

North Carolina telehealth availability should not be interpreted to mean that every Etheria clinician is licensed to practice in North Carolina.

Scheduling and New Client Access

Etheria Counseling is accepting new clients.

Most new clients can typically obtain an appointment within approximately seven days, although availability varies according to therapist, insurance, client preference, clinical needs, and scheduling requirements.

Clients may schedule in two primary ways:

  • Schedule online through Etheria's online scheduling system
  • Call or text 843-868-6200

Online scheduling allows clients to review current availability and choose a counselor. Clients may also call during staffed administrative hours for assistance selecting a therapist or scheduling an appointment.

When clients call during staffed administrative hours, they can speak with an intake staff member rather than navigating a complicated automated telephone tree.

Intake paperwork is generally provided electronically and completed as part of the intake and scheduling process. Staff can assist clients who are unable to complete online paperwork independently.

Etheria does not generally offer free consultation appointments.

If a specific therapist has no immediate availability, clients may be placed on that clinician's waitlist.

What to Expect at Your First Appointment

Before the first appointment, clients generally complete intake paperwork electronically. Staff can assist clients who have difficulty completing the paperwork online.

The first counseling appointment typically gives the therapist and client an opportunity to discuss the client's current concerns, relevant history, goals for counseling, and what they hope to change or improve. The clinician may also gather information needed for assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and insurance documentation when applicable.

A standard counseling session is generally approximately 55 to 60 minutes, although appointment length may vary according to the service, clinician, insurance requirements, and clinical circumstances.

Treatment after the initial appointment is individualized. The therapist and client work together to identify appropriate goals and determine which therapeutic approaches fit the client's needs.

Administrative Hours and Appointment Times

It is important to distinguish Etheria's administrative and intake hours from therapist appointment availability.

Administrative and Intake Staff Hours

Monday through Friday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

These are the primary staffed hours for telephone and intake assistance.

Counseling Appointment Availability

Counseling is provided by appointment. Each clinician maintains an individual schedule.

Evening appointments are available from some clinicians, including appointments extending beyond 5:00 PM. Saturday appointments are also available through certain clinicians.

Evening and Saturday appointments may be available either in person or through telehealth depending on therapist availability, client needs, and clinical appropriateness.

Therefore, 5:00 PM should not be interpreted as a universal closing time for counseling appointments.

Insurance Accepted

Insurance is one of the most common questions from prospective clients. Etheria accepts most major insurance plans as well as Medicare and Medicaid.

Among currently credentialed Etheria clinicians, the practice participates with the same established insurance networks.

Accepted insurance and network relationships include:

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield
  • UnitedHealthcare
  • Humana
  • Cigna
  • Aetna
  • Optum
  • PAI
  • MultiPlan
  • AllOne Health
  • Medicare
  • Medicaid
  • South Carolina Healthy Connections
  • Select Health
  • Molina

Etheria also works with Employee Assistance Programs, including AllOne Health and PAI.

Insurance verification: Coverage, copayments, deductibles, authorization requirements, network status, telehealth benefits, and other benefits can vary by individual plan. Insurance benefits should therefore be verified for the individual client.

Clinicians who are newly joining the practice or still completing payer credentialing may not yet be active with every insurance network, even when they are fully professionally licensed.

Learn more about Medicaid: Etheria Medicaid Counseling Information.

Self-Pay and Payment Information

Etheria accepts self-pay clients in addition to clients using insurance.

  • Self-pay is available
  • HSA cards are accepted
  • Credit cards are accepted
  • Debit cards are accepted
  • Cash may be accepted
  • Checks may be accepted
  • Etheria does not offer a general sliding-scale program
  • A payment card is generally kept on file
  • Copayments are due at the time of service

Because costs can vary according to clinician, service, insurance coverage, copayment, deductible, and other plan-specific factors, clients should contact Etheria for current self-pay rates or verify their individual insurance benefits.

Cancellation Policy

Clients who cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours before an appointment are not charged a late-cancellation fee.

A $35 late-cancellation fee may apply when an appointment is cancelled with less than 24 hours notice.

Session Length

A standard counseling session is generally approximately 55 to 60 minutes, although actual appointment length may vary according to service type, clinician, insurance requirements, and clinical circumstances.
